Christmas time is not far away now in the wonderful region of South Tyrol. Advent is a romantic time, a period in which the locals settle down and reflect on yet another year’s work. The first snow is falling and the mountains are covered in snow, the locals decorate their houses, design their Advent wreaths, and the air is dominated by the warm scent of cinnamon, cloves and aniseed. You will love the traditional Christmas markets in Bruneco, Vipiteno, Chiusa, Bressanone and Bolzano, which are open from 27 November to 6 January. Be sure to taste the traditional “Zelten” pastries, fruity bread filled with pears, figs, nuts and other regional delicacies. Originally this traditional specialty was made always on 21 December, and handed to the maids and servants as a thank you for their work.
